What's Hot and Not in the Computer Book Market
Thanks to Tim O'Reilly of O'Reilly Media for breaking down his latest market report for the rest of us who don't have access to this depth of research. Since time is almost as short as most attention spans, here are a few of my favorite highlights:

In web development-speak, "agile" has replaced "extreme" as the meme of choice for lightweight development.

"SQL is the new HTML" has been shown to be a good bit of prognosticating by Hal Varian as evidenced by a tremendous growth rate in SQL Server books, dwarfing both Oracle and MySQL.

Interest in Java is continuing to slump, while Visual Basic and C# show strong growth. Same for Ruby on Rails in the open source language category.

Books on VoIP are particularly hot (up 96%), as are books on networking in general, while books on security are not!

Tim's full report, which is quite lengthy and in three sections, can be found at his blog O'Reilly Radar.
