According to the New York Times, Google is up in arms over the default setting of MSN in IE7's new Search window.
Come on, Google. The controls to choose and set a default search engine couldn't be simpler. The beta 2 version of IE7 offers six search engine choices (AOL, Yahoo, Google, MSN, Ask and Lycos), and any one of them can be made a default choice with one click.
I think this has more to do with today's announcement about the launch of Microsoft's AdCenter, which poses a serious challenge to Google's AdSense. The "war" is indeed on.
