Some factors include the way local papers syndicate content from the bigger players (so let's just buy the New York Times instead), the way how news isn't entertaining, the way news has broken through evening television, and the death of the paper boy to a complex and efficient circulation system.
Can the same be said for online content? As bloggers, syndicating content is common practice, where we get some chaff here and there, but aim for the wheat with regards to original content - or a repeat content with an original spin. Point is, writers, especially those who publish online, need to constantly reinvent themselves and see how their content matches up to the same thing written by everyone else. Sometimes it's not about getting the buzz first, because nothing is exclusive anymore when it goes online.
