I left the world of full-time, permanent employment back in October 2004 to strike out on my own as a
freelance technical writer and editor. The benefits have been many, not least of which -
as I wrote on my personal blog last year - is the fact that I managed to go a full winter without catching so much as a single cold once I started working from home rather than taking the crowded Metro to work each day and being forced to sit in office buildings with the air conditioning on at full blast (and then off, and then on, and then ...).
Curiously, it has taken me exactly three weeks of working on site for a new client to fall ill, which would seem to confirm my hypothesis that working in an office environment is bad for your health. And I have to get up one hour earlier each day for the privilege!
