in medias res
It's no new technique to start writing in the middle of things. In fact, that's how good movies usually start - so writing, film - it's all art.

When I do product reviews, I rarely start writing with the introduction that says gadget so and so is a new entry level smartphone that has these as features and costs roughly this much.

I usually start with the conclusion because one can get carried away writing about specs without showing the real benefit. At least, starting from the conclusion or verdict sets the general direction of the article - whether you want to write something for or against the product.
