The two R’s: Reading and Writing go hand in hand. One fully appreciates the written word by imbibing this through books. 

I belong to a family of readers. Serious readers. My grandpa had a big library stocked with the classics, law books, and a complete set of National Geographic magazines starting with Volume 1.  My father also had a big library. But mother added her own organized touch to the collection. Every single book was indexed and we had to sign out for any book borrowed. Mother also had a terrific sense of humor. She was fond of comic books, and so, typical of children, we took advantage of this weakness of hers and stocked up on different genres:  Walt Disney, early DC, the precursor to Marvel, etc. We were not aware then of the future potential of some of these comic books, and so, our organized mother had them bound according to type.

The family members became fairly erudite and able to express ourselves in both the written and spoken word. Many became editors-in-chief or simply good writers.  All because of an innate love for books.
