Normally, one is wont to either curse or take the electric utility company for granted in one’s hometown. This is a given. Until that fateful day when the entire community is plunged into darkness!
When this happens, we recall the song by Bobby Goldsborough about a lineman working for the county. A simple song that one hums or takes for granted too, much like one would the electric utility. The past four days, I was witness to the heroic efforts of the linemen of our local utility in their work to restore power to our community. They had to work with limited resources, an astounding number of downed lines and posts, hazards like collapsed billboards and falling trees, and the occasional mudslide. And yet, in a few days, they were able to bring back power to a substantial portion of their franchise area.
Making it possible for internet junkies like us to blog or read and send mail! A thousand cheers for our unheralded, underappreciated linemen!
