
Though this piece of advice has been reiterated time and again, it is often undermined because of our personal desire to make things sound flowery and more "personal."
So again, we go back to our audience - who are we writing for again? If it's not for our own private journal, the exercise in breviry is always a welcome thing.
This is our main task as editors - to make things easier for our readers to understand. Writers, at least those that are more unbridled with their pen (or keyboard) oft beat around the bush due to excitement. Our job is to become the "writer whisperer" and tame that inner spirit.
