RIGHT USAGE: IMPERIAL vs IMPERIOUS

sourced by JMJF

The word IMPERIAL is derived from the word EMPEROR. Thus, it is used to describe the trappings of power, or other expressions in reference to the emperor or empire. Example: The monarch resides in the Imperial Palace, from where he rules his kingdom (or empire).

When one is said to be IMPERIOUS, one is said to be “Demanding”, “Commanding”, “Domineering”, etc. Thus, an example of usage would be:  The general barked out his commands in an imperious manner, causing his officers and troops to run and do his bidding.
