The word ILLEGAL means that something is contrary to or against the law. While the word ILLEGITIMATE also means that something is unlawful, it has come to be accepted to mean “someone born out of wedlock”. On the other hand, it has also come to refer to anything or anyone “Fake” or “Spurious”. The word ILLICIT also means the same thing as illegal, but implies a sense of shame to it. Examples: Joe and Jane had an illegal relationship. As a result, they produced an illegitimate child. Their illicit relationship brought scandal to the two families, and caused the miscreants to be driven out of their respective houses.
