Though writers' block is something we all have to deal with on a day to day basis, we often find strategies to lift ourselves from this veil of darkness. Food and drink tends to be a natural inspiration for people to write - coffee, alcohol, a nice warm dinner ...

For me, it's the chocolate cake from this quaint little place called Chocolat, a small pastry shop where I retreat for an afternoon of writing, reading and thinking. No wireless Internet here unfortunately but this can be a blessing in disguise so I can be a hermit for an afternoon - just for one afternoon, away from technology.

OK I actually cheat. I leave my mobile phone on.
