Today’s folio, or portfolio, describes a compilation of many pages or sheets containing similar or different subject matters. A budding model, for example, would probably be carrying around a FOLIO of his or her photos for potential sponsors to use commercially.
Again, like so many of our present day words, we go back to Latin to the word folium, which means Leaf. Ever wonder then from where the word Foliage is derived? The English phrase IN FOLIO was once used to describe a full sheet of paper that would be folded once. Pretty soon, the word FOLIO was used to describe a compilation of many such sheets.
